Rohingya Women Gain Confidence and Independence Through Adult Learning in Cox\u2019s Bazar

\nRohingya women in Bangladesh\u2019s refugee camps are building confidence, independence, and essential life skills through literacy programs, according to UN Women.<\/p>\n
The Accelerated Adult Learning (AAL) initiative at Multi-Purpose Women\u2019s Centres (MPWCs) is helping women who had never attended school to read, write, and navigate daily life with greater self-reliance.<\/p>\n
Through the AAL program, participants learn to read simple words, understand numbers and dates, and even sign their own names, significantly enhancing their autonomy. <\/p>\n
Since its launch, the AAL program has reached 349 participants, including 227 women and 183 girls, improving basic literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for leadership, income generation, and informed decision-making. The introduction of 72 tablets has further enabled technology-facilitated learning, allowing participants to access educational materials directly and build digital skills.<\/p>\n
Funded by UN Women with support from the Embassies of Japan, Sweden, and Switzerland, the initiative strengthens women\u2019s centres and markets across the camps, fostering empowerment, resilience, and sustainable opportunities for Rohingya women.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
