Sudan\u2019s government has officially returned to the capital, Khartoum, more than two years after being displaced by the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, Prime Minister Kamil Idris announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking after the move, Idris said the administration, which he described as the \u201cgovernment of hope,\u201d had resumed its work in Khartoum following a prolonged period operating from Port Sudan due to insecurity caused by fighting between rival forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Turkey\u2019s Anadolu Agency, the prime minister outlined priorities for the post-return phase, including efforts to rebuild key public infrastructure damaged during the conflict. He said plans were underway to restore hospitals, schools, and universities, which were heavily affected during months of fighting in and around the capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Idris also referred to economic planning for the coming period, stating that the government\u2019s 2026 budget had been prepared with objectives that include reducing inflation, boosting gross domestic product, and improving public security. These goals were presented as part of a broader effort to stabilize the country and restore basic services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 15, 2023, leading to widespread displacement, damage to infrastructure, and a severe humanitarian crisis.
