Protests began on Friday as locals raised concerns over environmental damage, destruction of farmland, and the extraction of gold without sharing revenues with the community. During the unrest, protesters briefly seized control of several mining operations, setting fire to equipment and tents, before Taliban forces cordoned off parts of the site in an area known as Samti Block One.<\/p>\n
