The Shia Rights Watch has documented a series of human rights violations against Shia Muslims across several countries between December 1, 2025 and January 1, 2026, citing killings, arrests, restrictions on religious practice and attacks on places of worship.<\/p>\n
The organization’s report includes what it described as the most prominent violations committed against Shia Muslims during the reporting period.<\/p>\n
In Afghanistan, the report cited the arrest of Shia poet and civil activist Sayed Eskandar Hosseini Bamdad, who was detained for 13 days by Taliban intelligence. It also reported the closure of the Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) Cultural and Educational Complex in Kabul by order of the acting justice minister, despite the center holding legal and religious licenses.<\/p>\n
In Pakistan, the organization reported that more than 30 citizens have been missing for years under unclear circumstances. It also cited threats issued by the Pakistani Taliban to bomb a mosque and Shia religious center in the Shah Wakil area of Hangu district.<\/p>\n
In Bahrain, the report documented continued security restrictions in the town of Al-Duraz, including the prevention of central Friday prayers for the 61st to 64th consecutive weeks, arrests of two individuals accused of calling for protests, and raids on religious ceremonies, including one marking the birth anniversary of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her).<\/p>\n
In Syria, the organization reported multiple incidents, including the killing of civilians, desecration of graves in several villages, sectarian slogans in Latakia, armed attacks in Hama countryside, and the bombing of the Imam Ali Mosque (peace be upon him) in Homs, which it said killed eight worshippers. It also cited the suppression of protests in Latakia and Homs.<\/p>\n
