Nearly 200 Afghan nationals have been released from prisons in Pakistan and Iraq and repatriated to Afghanistan, the Taliban\u2019s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said on Thursday, Khaama Press reported. According to the ministry, 171 of the individuals had been held in Pakistan for nearly two months before being freed and allowed to cross back into Afghanistan. The remaining 19 had been detained in Iraq, where they spent between six and nine months in custody before their release. All returnees re-entered the country through border points in Kandahar\u2019s Spin Boldak district and the province of Nimroz, where authorities said they were assisting with documentation and initial support services. <\/p>\n
Taliban officials have repeatedly called on neighboring governments to refrain from detaining undocumented Afghan migrants, urging instead the use of formal processes for deportation or legal status determination.
