\nThe Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) announced that at least 38 Muslim candidates won seats at various levels of government in the recent U.S. elections \u2014 marking a historic milestone for Muslim political participation in the country.<\/p>\n
According to Al Jazeera, CAIR \u2014 the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the United States \u2014 reported that out of 76 Muslim candidates who ran for office, half succeeded in securing positions in state legislatures, city governments, and local councils.<\/p>\n
Among the key victories, Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor of New York City, while Ghazala Hashmi became the lieutenant governor of Virginia \u2014 a development CAIR described as a \u201chistoric moment\u201d for Muslim political inclusion in the U.S.<\/p>\n
Other notable wins include Abdullah Hammoud\u2019s re-election as mayor of Dearborn, Michigan; Hassan Ahmad\u2019s victory in the Dearborn Heights City Council; and Mohamed Beydoun\u2019s election as mayor of Dearborn Heights. Naeem Chaudhry also won a seat on the Hamtramck City Council.<\/p>\n
