Malaysia and New Zealand have agreed to expand their partnership in halal certification and trade beyond the food industry, marking a new phase in the global halal economy that includes pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, biotechnology, and services, The Malaysian Reserve reported.<\/p>\n
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the halal sector now reflects a broader system of ethics, sustainability, and quality assurance that appeals to global consumers.<\/p>\n
Following talks with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit, Ahmad Zahid noted that Malaysia\u2019s Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM) currently recognises three halal certifiers in New Zealand and called for greater market access for Malaysian halal products.<\/p>\n
Malaysia also proposed that New Zealand join the ASEAN Halal Council as a \u201cplus\u201d member to harmonise regional standards. Luxon highlighted that both nations share a commitment to high-quality and transparent production, saying the halal market extends beyond food to sectors like cosmetics, medical devices, and tourism.<\/p>\n
He announced the completion of negotiations on an upgraded Halal Implementing Arrangement to streamline certification and export procedures, while both countries are exploring electronic certification and digital traceability systems to enhance consumer confidence and global halal trade.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
