A new study has revealed that global warming has significantly altered patterns of extreme rainfall and snowfall across the Northern Hemisphere over the past 70 years, Grand Pinnacle Tribune reported. <\/p>\n
The research, published in Advances in Climate Change Research by scientists from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, analyzed ERA5-Land data from 1950 to 2022. <\/p>\n
It found that extreme rainfall has intensified by 0.269 millimeters per year\u2014nearly nine times faster than the rate of increase for extreme snowfall, which rose by 0.029 millimeters annually.<\/p>\n
The study concluded that rising temperatures are driving more frequent and intense rainfall, while their impact on extreme snowfall remains modest.
