DENK, known for its advocacy of multiculturalism and Muslim rights, announced the proposal to make home ownership more accessible to Muslims in line with Islamic Sharia law, which prohibits paying or receiving interest.<\/p>\n
Party leader Stephan van Baarle said in a video published by the Gasta news agency that many Dutch Muslims are excluded from buying homes because traditional mortgage systems charge interest. \u201cThis initiative could solve that problem,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cIt is the first time such a proposal is being introduced as a public policy within the European Union.\u201d<\/p>\n
