Pakistan has renewed its call for the United Nations to enable the people of Kashmir to exercise their right to self-determination through a free and fair referendum, in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions. <\/p>\n
The appeal was made by Pakistan\u2019s permanent UN ambassador, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during a general debate of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, which addresses human rights and humanitarian issues. Ahmad warned that the international community\u2019s failure to secure the rights of both Palestinians and Kashmiris undermines the credibility of the global human rights system.<\/p>\n
He highlighted decades of alleged repression in Jammu and Kashmir, including arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, demographic changes, and sexual violence against women. <\/p>\n
