EU Voices Support for Syria\u2019s New Transitional Government in Talks with President al-Sharaa

\nIn a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, European Council President Ant\u00f3nio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held talks with Syria\u2019s President Ahmed al-Sharaa, according to Anadolu Agency.<\/p>\n
In a joint post on X, the EU leaders said they had a \u201cgood exchange\u201d and reaffirmed support for \u201ca genuine, inclusive, peaceful and Syrian-led transition, free from harmful foreign interference.\u201d <\/p>\n
They pledged to deepen political dialogue, address urgent humanitarian needs, and back socio-economic recovery and reconstruction in Syria. <\/p>\n
Al-Sharaa, who came to power following the fall of Bashar al-Assad\u2019s regime, has overseen a transitional administration formed in January.<\/p>\n
