The Al-Hol camp, situated 45 km east of Hasaka near the Syrian-Iraqi border, represents one of the most complex issues in North and East Syria. Initially established for Iraqi refugees in the 1990s, its population swelled dramatically after the fall of ISIS’s final stronghold in Baghuz in 2019, turning it into a repository for displaced Syrians and an estimated 26,539 individuals, including 6,352 foreign nationals and 4,933 Iraqis, most of whom are women and children linked to the militant group.<\/p>\n
