\nIn a groundbreaking study, Norwegian researchers have found that an existing blood pressure drug may be able to prevent migraines. According to Anadolu Agency citing the Norwegian broadcaster NRK, the medication, called candesartan, could “change the way migraines are treated worldwide.”<\/p>\n
The study, led by Lise Rystad Oie, was conducted from 2021 to 2024 at nine hospitals in Norway and one in Estonia. It involved nearly 500 participants between the ages of 18 and 64 who experienced two to eight migraine attacks per month. The results showed that candesartan effectively prevented attacks in people who had fewer than 15 headache days per month.<\/p>\n
The researchers highlighted that candesartan\u2019s effect is comparable to newer, more expensive migraine medications but without the severe side effects often associated with them. Since its patent has expired, the drug is readily available at a low cost, making it a potentially affordable treatment globally.
