A decision to establish a new cemetery section for Muslims near H\u00f6rby Church has sparked debate within the local church council after the Sweden Democrats (SD) distributed a leaflet describing the plan as a \u201csymbol of dominance\u201d and a \u201cthreat to Christian values.\u201d <\/p>\n
The leaflet, issued days before church elections, featured images of graves marked with crescents and alleged that Muslims demanded elevated plots to avoid \u201cChristian rainwater.\u201d<\/p>\n
Robert Stenb\u00e4ck, deputy chair of the church council from the Social Democrats, rejected the claims, stressing that the location was chosen for technical reasons and lies on unused land, not over existing Christian graves. He criticized the campaign as fearmongering.<\/p>\n
Kai Jarl, representing the Sweden Democrats, said the party does not oppose Muslim burials but objects to them taking place on \u201cChristian land.\u201d Stenb\u00e4ck noted that planning began two years ago, with the new section set to open this autumn, offering 66 plots alongside about 5,000 existing Christian graves.
