\nA human rights group in India has issued a notice to top government officials demanding action against police officers for the alleged custodial torture of Muslim youths in Vadodara, Muslim Mirror reported. The Minority Coordination Committee (MCC) Gujarat sent the notice to officials including the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, and the Police Commissioner of Vadodara.<\/p>\n
The incident reportedly occurred on August 26 and 27, when Muslim youths who had been arrested during Ganesh Visarjan processions were publicly humiliated and paraded by police. The MCC alleges that no action has been taken against the officers involved.<\/p>\n
According to the notice, the actions of the police constitute a “grave violation” of Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, which protects a citizen’s right to life and liberty. Mujahid Nafees, the convenor of the MCC, stated that the police’s actions are a serious violation of constitutional protections and the directives of the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
The notice demands that punitive measures and criminal proceedings be initiated against the officers immediately. The MCC has asserted it is prepared to take further legal action if the authorities do not act, as such incidents destroy public trust in the judiciary.
