UN Report Highlights Widespread Violations of Women\u2019s Rights in Nigerian Schoolgirls\u2019 Abduction Case

\nThe United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) has held the Nigerian government responsible for \u201cserious and systematic\u201d violations of the rights of women and girls in a recent report.<\/p>\n
According to Al Jazeera, the report was prepared following a 2023 visit by the committee delegation to several Nigerian states and emphasizes the extensive suffering of survivors of the Chibok schoolgirls\u2019 abduction.<\/p>\n
In the April 2014 attack, 276 girls were kidnapped by the extremist Boko Haram group.<\/p>\n
Reuters reported that many of the victims were subjected to forced marriage, religious conversion, and physical and sexual violence.<\/p>\n
The report states that so far, 103 girls have been released, while the fate of 91 remains unknown.<\/p>\n
