Amnesty International has called on states, public institutions, and corporations worldwide to cease all support and economic activities linked to what it describes as Israel\u2019s ongoing violations of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), including Gaza, the organization reported in a briefing released Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The report accuses governments and companies of enabling or profiting from Israel\u2019s military operations, long-standing occupation, and what Amnesty describes as a system of apartheid against Palestinians. Amnesty argues that the \u201cpolitical economy\u201d sustaining these practices has allowed decades of human rights abuses to continue with little accountability. <\/p>\n
The briefing coincides with the one-year deadline set by a 2024 UN General Assembly resolution requiring Israel to withdraw from the OPT, a deadline which has passed without action.
\nAmnesty\u2019s Secretary General, Agn\u00e8s Callamard, stated that international complicity in Israel\u2019s actions\u2014through arms sales, surveillance technology, and trade with companies linked to unlawful settlements\u2014has fueled the crisis.<\/p>\n
\u201cHuman dignity is not a commodity,\u201d she said, urging immediate action to prevent further harm to Palestinian civilians. The briefing highlights 15 companies that Amnesty says contribute to violations in the OPT, including U.S. defense giants Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Palantir Technologies; Israeli firms Elbit Systems, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI); and others like China\u2019s Hikvision, Spain\u2019s CAF, and South Korea\u2019s HD Hyundai. <\/p>\n
These companies allegedly provide arms, surveillance systems, or services used by Israeli forces in Gaza and the West Bank. Israeli state-owned Mekorot is named for managing water infrastructure in ways that discriminate against Palestinians, while tourism platforms such as Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia, and TripAdvisor are cited for continuing to list properties in illegal Israeli settlements.<\/p>\n
Amnesty is calling on states to implement arms embargoes, ban trade and investment linked to settlements, and impose sanctions on individuals and entities involved in maintaining the occupation. Companies are urged to divest, suspend contracts, and halt sales of military and surveillance technologies to Israel.<\/p>\n
The report follows multiple rulings by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which found a plausible risk of genocide in Gaza and affirmed all states\u2019 responsibility to prevent such acts.
