The Al-Jazira Human Rights Observatory has documented the continued detention of at least 3,300 people in Sudan\u2019s Al-Jazira state, including in the cities of Wad Madani, Al-Hasahisa, and Rufaa. The report, covering the period from April 2023 to September 2025, highlights widespread abuses carried out by various security and military forces.<\/p>\n
According to the findings, most detainees are political activists, resistance committee members, and civilian volunteers, with some arrests reportedly targeting individuals on ethnic grounds. Hundreds of cases have been referred to courts, where harsh sentences, including life imprisonment and the death penalty, were issued. <\/p>\n
The report also cites coerced confessions under torture, poor detention conditions, denial of medical care, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings. The Observatory further alleged corruption, claiming that some detainees were released after paying large bribes.
