\nThe extremist Sunni militant group Boko Haram has carried out a deadly attack on the village of Dar al-Jamal in Borno State, northeast Nigeria, killing around 70 people, including seven soldiers.<\/p>\n
According to Reuters, the assailants set fire to homes and opened fire indiscriminately on residents. Many of the victims were civilians who had only recently returned to the village after years of displacement caused by insurgent violence.<\/p>\n
The assault underscores the ongoing threat posed by Boko Haram despite intensified counter-insurgency operations by the Nigerian army.
