The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported on Thursday that flash floods and heavy rainfall in eastern Sudan\u2019s Al-Rahad locality, Gedaref State, have displaced approximately 2,800 people and damaged 660 homes. Of these, 560 were completely destroyed, while 100 were partially damaged.<\/p>\n
The flooding, which occurred on Wednesday, was triggered by the overflow of the Al-Rahad River, severely affecting villages including Dar Al-Salam, Bazoura, and Umm Al-Khair. Displaced families have sought shelter within nearby host communities, according to IOM field teams.<\/p>\n
This incident follows the deaths of 14 people due to flooding in Sudan\u2019s Nile and Sennar states earlier this week, where hundreds of homes were also destroyed. Sudan typically experiences seasonal flooding during the rainy months from June to October.<\/p>\n
