According to the latest data from the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), the total area burned in 2025 has surpassed the yearly records of previous years, with a significant increase occurring in August. The affected regions include Spain and Portugal, which have been battling multiple blazes.<\/p>\n
The data indicates that the area burned in Spain has sharply risen in August, reaching approximately 400,000 hectares (about 988,400 acres). Similarly, Portugal has seen a steep increase, with a total burned area of around 270,000 hectares (about 667,700 acres) this year.<\/p>\n
In parallel with the wildfire crisis, the continent’s carbon dioxide emissions have also risen to 38 million tons, highlighting the environmental impact of the fires.
