WHO Secures $6.3 Million to Strengthen Health Services in Afghanistan

The World Health Organization (WHO) in Afghanistan has received over US$6.3 million in humanitarian aid to bolster healthcare for vulnerable populations, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The funding includes US$4.98 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and US$1.39 million from the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF).<\/p>\n
With CERF support, WHO will operate 42 primary health centres, deploy 15 surveillance teams, and distribute 249 health kits across 13 provinces. The AHF grant will support six sub-health centres, 10 surveillance teams, and 13 therapeutic feeding centres in four high-need provinces, focusing on malnourished children.<\/p>\n
The funding comes amid growing strain on Afghanistan\u2019s healthcare system, where nearly one-third of the population lacks basic medical access.
