The official news agency SANA reported that two attackers targeted the Siyasiyeh checkpoint. Security forces managed to shoot and kill one of them, but the second detonated his explosives, killing a member of the internal security forces.<\/p>\n
Daesh, also known as ISIS, has not claimed responsibility, but authorities attributed the operation to the group, which has continued to carry out sporadic bombings and ambushes despite its territorial defeat in Syria in 2019. The militants maintain sleeper cells in the country\u2019s desert regions and frequently target security forces and civilians.<\/p>\n
The attack underlines the persistent threat posed by Daesh in eastern Syria, particularly in Deir Ezzor, where remnants of the group remain active along the Euphrates River valley.<\/p>\n
