The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, shows senior doctor Bindu Gupta instructing the intern, Umama, to discard her hijab, arguing that a visible face is necessary to identify medical staff in case of errors.<\/p>\n
Umama, who is doing an Unani internship in the hospital\u2019s labor room, insisted on wearing the hijab as part of her religious faith, stating that patients had never objected. Dr. Gupta repeatedly emphasized safety concerns, questioning how staff would be identified if a patient suffered a reaction to treatment.<\/p>\n
The issue had been raised earlier but resurfaced recently, prompting protests from Muslim organizations and Congress leaders demanding action against Dr. Gupta.
