Libya Concludes Municipal Elections

\nThe second phase of municipal council elections in Libya has concluded, and vote counting is now underway, Anadolu Agency reported. According to the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), all polling stations in the 26 municipalities closed without any significant security incidents, with a preliminary voter turnout of 71%, or 161,684 participants.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh praised the newly elected councils as key partners in local development and decentralization. The HNEC noted that the high voter turnout reflects a growing awareness among citizens of the importance of peaceful participation in local governance.<\/p>\n
However, the elections were not without challenges. Voting in more than two-thirds of the municipalities was suspended due to what the HNEC described as “blatant attacks” on its offices.
