In a letter addressed to the health, home, and foreign secretaries, the MPs said children in the enclave face imminent risk of death due to Gaza\u2019s collapsed healthcare system. <\/p>\n
They called for sufficient funding, a clear evacuation timeline, and the removal of administrative barriers hindering urgent medical transfers. The appeal was coordinated by Labour MP and physician Dr. Simon Opher, in collaboration with M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res (MSF).<\/p>\n
The MPs emphasized that evacuated children and their families must be granted the right to claim asylum after receiving medical care in Britain. They also questioned the Home Office\u2019s requirement for biometric checks before travel, which they described as an unnecessary obstacle in a humanitarian emergency.<\/p>\n
According to UNICEF, more than 50,000 children in Gaza have been killed or injured since the outbreak of the war in late 2023.
