More than 3 million displaced people in the Democratic Republic of Congo have returned to their homes as of July 2025, according to UN humanitarian agency OCHA, Africanews reported. North Kivu province accounted for over 2 million returnees, while South Kivu saw more than 600,000 people go back. <\/p>\n
The total number of internally displaced persons has fallen from 6.9 million in 2024 to 5.9 million this year. Despite this progress, humanitarian needs remain severe. Many returnees face hardship, with some forced to leave camps in Goma and Nyiragongo after their closure earlier this year. <\/p>\n
The country continues to battle cholera, measles, and mpox outbreaks, while 27 million people face food insecurity, including 4.5 million children with acute malnutrition.
