\nA nearly 900-year-old ceramic ceremonial pot has been unearthed at the ancient site of Harran, located in T\u00fcrkiye’s southeastern Sanliurfa province, Anadolu Agency reported. Harran, recognized as one of the world’s oldest settlements, holds the distinction of being a UNESCO World Heritage Tentative Site.<\/p>\n
The remarkably well-preserved pot was discovered during ongoing excavations at the Harran Madrasah, a significant historical center of learning. Professor Mehmet Onal, head of the Archaeology Department at Harran University and lead archaeologist at the site, stated that this marks the first time a fully intact pot made using the lusterware or firing technique has been found in Harran.<\/p>\n
Dating back to the Middle Ages, specifically the Zengid and Ayyubid periods (around the 12th century AD), the pot measures approximately 20 centimeters deep. It is adorned with intricate Arabic inscriptions and even bears the signature of its maker.
