\nThe United Nations Security Council on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution urging all Member States to effectively utilize peaceful mechanisms for resolving international disputes as outlined in the UN Charter. These mechanisms include negotiation, enquiry, mediation, conciliation, arbitration, judicial settlement, and other peaceful means.<\/p>\n
Sponsored by Pakistan, the resolution reaffirmed that all states must settle their disputes through dialogue, diplomatic engagement, and cooperation, ensuring that international peace, security, and justice are not compromised. It also emphasized that nations must refrain from threats or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, consistent with the purposes of the United Nations.<\/p>\n
The resolution highlighted the importance of preventing disputes from arising and escalating, calling on Member States to take necessary measures for the effective implementation of Security Council resolutions related to peaceful dispute settlement.<\/p>\n
It encouraged the UN Secretary-General to lead and support mediation and preventive diplomacy efforts, recognizing the work of the UN\u2019s Mediation Support Unit (MSU). The MSU provides operational support and mediation expertise worldwide, and the resolution urged the Secretariat to maintain a pool of well-trained, experienced, impartial, and geographically diverse mediation experts.<\/p>\n
The resolution also stressed the inclusion of women and youth in conflict prevention and dispute resolution, recognizing their meaningful participation as crucial. Additionally, it called for enhanced cooperation with regional and subregional organizations.<\/p>\n
