\nUS Senator Ted Cruz has revived efforts to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization with a new bill aimed at banning the group completely and targeting its financial networks, The New Arab reported.<\/p>\n
The “Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act of 2025” instructs the Secretary of State to identify and list branches of the Brotherhood that are already recognized as terrorist entities and to add any others that meet the criteria. The bill also seeks to designate the broader global organization due to its alleged support for such groups. <\/p>\n
According to the Washington Free Beacon, the legislation proposes a “modernized strategy” that emphasizes a bottom-up approach to imposing sanctions on the Brotherhood\u2019s international branches. The bill has reportedly received backing from several Republican senators, as well as pro-Israel lobbying groups like AIPAC, Christians United for Israel, and the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. <\/p>\n
The Muslim Brotherhood, founded in Egypt in 1928, states its goal is to promote Islamic governance through peaceful political participation. However, it is banned in multiple Arab countries, including Egypt and recently Jordan. <\/p>\n
