Human rights group sounds alarm over need for humanitarian aid in Sudan during rainy season

\nAmnesty International has issued an urgent call for humanitarian aid access in Sudan as the rainy season threatens to worsen an already dire crisis, Jurist News reported. Over 11 million people have been displaced due to ongoing conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Tigere Chagutah, Amnesty\u2019s director for East and Southern Africa, emphasized the need for parties to the conflict to allow safe, unconditional humanitarian access and to halt attacks on aid workers and facilities.<\/p>\n
Displaced Sudanese urgently require food, clean water, medical care, and shelter. UNICEF reported that more than 40,000 children in North Darfur alone are being treated for severe acute malnutrition. M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res warned in April of the need to deploy malnutrition treatment and food distribution before the rainy season further restricts access.<\/p>\n
The International Criminal Court has found \u201creasonable grounds\u201d to suspect war crimes and crimes against humanity, including targeted sexual violence against women and girls from specific ethnic groups. The US government has labeled the RSF and allied militias as perpetrators of genocide, sanctioning RSF leader Mohammed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti) for sexual violence and targeted killings.<\/p>\n
