Chinese researchers have turned bees into \u201ccyborgs\u201d by implanting tiny brain controllers that direct their movements, according to the MailOnline. The device, weighing less than a pinch of salt, attaches to a bee\u2019s back and connects to its brain with micro-needles. In tests, bees obeyed commands to turn left or right 90% of the time.<\/p>\n
Led by Professor Zhao Jieliang at the Beijing Institute of Technology, the project aims to use cyborg bees for rescue missions or covert surveillance. Equipped with cameras or sensors, the bees could gather information in tight spaces undetected. The system sends electrical pulses to the bee\u2019s optical lobe, guiding flight.
