\nThe United Nations reported on July 12, 2025, that escalating conflict and targeted violence in Myanmar\u2019s Rakhine state have forced approximately 150,000 Rohingya refugees to flee to Bangladesh over the past 18 months, the UN website reported. This marks the largest movement of Rohingya into Bangladesh since the mass exodus of 2017, when around 750,000 fled deadly violence.<\/p>\n
Thousands continue to cross into overcrowded camps in Cox\u2019s Bazar, where nearly one million Rohingya already live in cramped conditions. UNHCR spokesperson Babar Baloch emphasized that this recent influx has been more gradual compared to 2017, but it still places significant strain on resources.<\/p>\n
UNHCR is working with Bangladeshi authorities to ensure managed access to safety and asylum for those fleeing the conflict. By the end of June, about 121,000 new refugees had been biometrically registered, though many remain unregistered in informal settlements. Shelter shortages remain a critical concern.<\/p>\n
Humanitarian aid\u2014including food, medical care, and education\u2014is being provided, but funding is severely lacking.
