The International Crimes Tribunal, led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mazumder, ordered charges against Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and ex-Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.<\/p>\n<p>The tribunal began proceedings in June, accusing Hasina of ordering state forces to use lethal force during the protests, which resulted in up to 1,400 deaths, including children, according to a UN human rights report. Hasina and Khan are reportedly in India, while Mamun remains in custody and has admitted involvement, now serving as a prosecution witness.<\/p>\n<p>Hasina\u2019s government was ousted on August 5, 2024, and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus formed a transitional government requesting her return for trial. India has not yet responded to this request. Yunus recently announced elections will take place in April 2026.
