The Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, led a deeply symbolic Ashura procession yesterday in Qom, walking barefoot and without a cloak to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) and his family and companions.<\/p>\n
According to the official website of His Eminence, the senior cleric offered heartfelt condolences to Imam Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance) on the anniversary of the tragedy of Ashura, which marks one of the most significant events in Islamic history.<\/p>\n
Early on the morning of Ashura, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi left his residence in the holy city of Qom and joined crowds of mourners walking toward the shrine of Sayyeda Fatima al-Ma\u2019suma (peace be upon her).
