Authorities said eight people remain hospitalised, with two in critical condition due to severe burns. Firefighters and ambulance workers were on site before the explosion due to the initial truck incident. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said a gas leak during fuel refilling operations likely caused the fire and explosion. <\/p>\n
Images showed the station gutted and flames rising high above the city. A nearby sports centre hosting a youth camp evacuated five children before the blast.
