The protest was organized by the Delhi Committee of CPI (ML) New Democracy and included participants from various democratic, workers\u2019, and civil rights groups.<\/p>\n
Protesters accused the Narendra Modi government of imposing an undeclared emergency-like situation by turning Delhi into a \u201cno-protest\u201d zone. They highlighted how Jantar Mantar, traditionally a designated protest site, has become heavily barricaded and monitored, with authorities mandating a 10-day prior notice for any public gathering. Additionally, permanent prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been enforced throughout Central Delhi, severely limiting protests near government offices, Parliament, and state buildings.<\/p>\n
A joint memorandum was submitted to Delhi\u2019s Chief Minister, demanding the lifting of Section 144 orders, restoration of the right to protest with simple prior intimation, and unhindered access to protest sites. Protesters also called for the ability to submit memoranda in person, a right currently denied.<\/p>\n
Comrade Mrigank, spokesperson for CPI (ML) New Democracy, warned that if the government fails to respond positively, a coordinated and intensified protest campaign will follow.
