A study at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi, found that one in four children hospitalized in a coma with malaria also had a concurrent bacterial infection. This change in protocol could affect treatment for approximately 2.3 million children annually in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Delays in reaching hospitals worsen outcomes. Children often arrive after prolonged unconsciousness, suffering brain swelling and injury, due to limited transport options and under-resourced local clinics.
