On Monday, officials decided to increase the minimum residency period needed to apply for citizenship from 5 to 10 years. However, Brazilians and other Portuguese-speaking nationals may qualify after 7 years, according to local reports.<\/p>\n
Family reunification will also be limited, permitting only immigrants who have held a residence permit in Portugal for at least two years to bring their spouses.<\/p>\n
Entry requirements for immigrants will become more stringent, with applicants assessed on their knowledge of Portuguese culture and language. Additionally, work visas will be restricted to highly qualified candidates.<\/p>\n
