UNICEF Reports Over 22 Million People in Afghanistan Need Urgent Humanitarian Aid

\nThe United Nations Children\u2019s Fund (UNICEF) has revealed that more than 22 million people in Afghanistan, including 12 million children, are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, Khaama Press reported. This alarming figure highlights the ongoing crisis in the country, exacerbated by conflict, instability, and economic hardship.<\/p>\n
During a recent monitoring period, UNICEF screened over 829,000 children for severe acute malnutrition. Approximately 37,000 children\u201459 percent of whom were girls\u2014received treatment, underscoring the agency\u2019s focus on combating child malnutrition across Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
UNICEF supports healthcare services through 2,406 fixed health centers across 34 provinces, providing basic, secondary, and specialized care amid challenging conditions. The organization has also established 15,775 community-based educational classes in 32 provinces, enabling over 348,000 children to access education, with girls comprising 66 percent of the students.<\/p>\n
In addition to health and education, UNICEF has extended child protection services to more than 47,000 children and their caregivers, ensuring safety and support amid ongoing conflict.<\/p>\n
UNICEF officials have expressed concern over declining funding levels, warning that reduced financial support could jeopardize these critical programs.
