Over 1.4 million Syrians have returned to their homeland since the fall of Bashar Assad\u2019s regime last December, Anadolu Agency reported citing the UN refugee agency (UNHCR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The UNHCR stated on X that while hope is now a reality for those returning, the process of rebuilding their lives remains challenging. Many of these individuals have been displaced since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agency emphasized the need for international assistance to support Syrian families as they rebuild. This includes help with reconstructing homes and infrastructure, raising awareness about landmine safety, providing legal aid, and offering mental health services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout the civil war, Turkey hosted approximately 4 million Syrians, more than any other country worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After anti-regime forces took control of Damascus on December 8, Assad, who had ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia. This event also marked the end of the Baath Party\u2019s rule, which had lasted since 1963.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
