Amir Mahmood, a spokesperson for the Ahmadi community, reported that a group of 100 to 200 people assaulted a 47-year-old car workshop owner, beating him to death with bricks and sticks. The mob continued to surround the building, trapping approximately 30 people inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Karachi\u2019s Saddar neighborhood superintendent of police, Mohammad Safdar, confirmed the fatality and told Reuters that police were working to disperse the crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ahmadis are a minority group regarded as heretical by some orthodox Muslims. Pakistani law prohibits them from identifying as Muslims or using Islamic symbols, and they frequently face violence, discrimination, and obstacles that prevent them from voting in general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
