Indonesia kicked off the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit in Jakarta on Tuesday, aiming to accelerate international cooperation in hydrogen development as part of its broader clean energy transition strategy. The three-day event, held at the Jakarta Convention Center, brings together around 2,500 participants from 10 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is co-organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of National Development Planning, Indonesia Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy, and state utility PLN. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia called the summit a \u201cnew chapter\u201d in Indonesia\u2019s implementation of the Paris climate agreement, highlighting plans to double gas production over the next decade to support domestic needs and hydrogen production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indonesia, which relies heavily on coal, currently sources about 15 percent of its energy from renewables. Under its National Hydrogen Strategy, the country aims to use hydrogen to enhance energy security, decarbonize, and boost economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The summit also saw South Korea\u2019s Hyundai announce a partnership with state-owned Pertamina to produce hydrogen from organic waste at the Sarimukti landfill in West Java.
