Government restrictions have historically impeded the repair and maintenance of mosques, exacerbating the destruction caused by the earthquake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the military government reported extensive damage to Buddhist structures, including 670 monasteries and 290 pagodas, it did not acknowledge the destruction of mosques in its official damage assessment. The World Health Organization has dispatched nearly three tons of medical supplies, including trauma kits, to affected areas.
