Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced on Sunday the formation of an expert committee responsible for drafting a constitutional declaration to guide the country through its transitional phase following the fall of Bashar al-Assad\u2019s regime, Anadolu Agency reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee’s mandate is to create a constitutional declaration that will structure Syria\u2019s transitional period, with a proposal expected to be submitted to the president. The Syrian Presidency stated that this decision aligns with the aspirations of the Syrian people to establish a state based on the rule of law, following the outcomes of the recent Syrian National Dialogue Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference, attended by various societal representatives and President Sharaa, aimed to outline a roadmap for Syria’s future after the Assad regime’s downfall. The final statement from the conference included agreements to expedite the announcement of a temporary constitutional declaration to address the constitutional vacuum, thus facilitating state operations. Additionally, a committee was formed to draft a permanent constitution that promotes a balance of powers, justice, freedom, equality, and institutional governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After nearly 25 years in power, Assad fled to Russia on December 8, marking the end of the Baath Party’s rule, which had lasted since 1963.
