Opened in 1984 at a cost of \u00a33 million, GCM was the first purpose-built mosque in Glasgow, designed in accordance with Islamic architectural traditions. It features a courtyard, dome, minaret, and arched openings, accommodating up to 2,500 worshippers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mosque, located on the southern bank of the Clyde, was built on the former site of the Adelphi whisky distillery. It serves as a vital community hub, providing over 350 weekly food parcels to asylum seekers and refugees. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it also operated as a vaccination center for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
