On June 10, 2014, Daesh declared its \u201ccaliphate\u201d after capturing Mosul, leading to years of conflict. Iraqi forces, supported by a US-led coalition, liberated the city in July 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, Al-Sudani emphasized that the airport’s opening coincides with the anniversary of Mosul’s occupation, symbolizing defiance against terrorism. Currently, over 80 percent of the airport’s runway and terminals have been completed, following extensive reconstruction efforts initiated by former Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in August 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
