Co-author Benjamin Henley from the University of Melbourne expressed deep concern, stating, “The world is losing one of its icons.” The reef, home to 600 coral species and 1,625 fish species, contributes approximately $4.2 billion annually to Australia’s economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
