A new UN report forecasts India surpassing China as the world’s most populous nation throughout this century, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
India is expected to reach a peak population of 1.7 billion in the early 2060s, followed by a gradual decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Globally, the population is projected to hit 10.3 billion in the mid-2080s before stabilizing around 10.2 billion by 2100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report also highlights a positive trend \u2013 life expectancy is rising. Since 1995, life expectancy has climbed by 8.4 years, reaching 73.3 years in 2024. By 2054, it’s expected to average 77.4 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, an aging population is on the horizon. The UN predicts that by 2080, the number of people over 65 will surpass those under 18.
