Turkish Geological engineer, Osman Bekta\u015f, has warned of the dire impact of global climate change on the Black Sea, Daily Sabah reported yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bekta\u015f notes that the continuous warming of the Black Sea is causing significant changes, including a weakening of the crucial intermediate layer that protects the upper layers from toxic hydrogen sulfide gas below, the article said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further explains that as the intermediate layer thins, the risk of the deep, toxic layer rising upwards increases, which could be catastrophic for surface-dwelling organisms. The expert points to data showing the oxygenated area of the Black Sea has already shrunk by a third, and warns that if this trend continues, the entire ecological balance of the sea will be destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
